Goth Shopping in Darkdale

Remember those Saturday afternoons of your youth when you’d put on your best gear and head out for an afternoon of strolling and shopping? (And people-watching?)

On Saturday, December 16th, the fates have conspired to let you relive those times with not one but six (!!) different holiday markets all within a few blocks of each other in (or near) the Parkdale (“Darkdale”) neighbourhood.

Clearly, we hope you’ll visit us at Ground Control, 1279 Queen Street West, from 11am – 5pm to check out our 35 amazing vendors AND have your photo taken with Santa.

But in the spirit of the holidays, and of helping to promote all artisans and small businesses, we’d like to remind you of some other markets taking place in the neighbourhood on the same day…

The Bazaar of the Bizarre, the OG of goth artisan markets, takes over Parkdale Hall (1605 Queen Street West) from 11am to 8pm.

For all your solstice-related holiday needs, Moonberry’s Yuletide Market fills up the Society Clubhouse at 967 College Street from noon to 7pm.

Need gifts for the normal folks in your life? Never fear, the Toronto Art Crawl is popping up at the Toronto Event Centre, 15 Saskatchewan Road, on the Exhibition Grounds, at the foot of Dufferin Street, from noon to 5pm.

Further east, The Welcome Market takes over 938 Queen Street West and the Good Friends Market will be open at 100 Ossington Avenue. Both of these markets offer a mix of of artisan and vintage wares and both run until December 17th.

No judgment if you’ve made some holiday purchases from the big A… Or the big W. We know times are tough for many people. But if you are able to, we hope you’ll visit us or one of the other markets taking place on December 16th and support local artisans and makers this holiday season. Even better if you head over to Parkdale and make a day out of it by visiting all of them!

Vendor List – Holiday Market, December 16th

Mark your calendars!!

We’re excited to announce the full list of vendors for our December 16th market at Ground Control.

Please visit us between 11am and 5pm to shop from 35 talented and creative local artisans selling a selection of weird and wonderful ephemera for the alternative-minded individual.

Plus – portrait photographer Terri Di Mauro of Di Mauro Photography will be with us. So beat your face and gear up in your full regalia for Goth photos with Santa!

Hallowmas Featured Vendor – Sheryl Kirby Creates

Sheryl Kirby creates bold, audacious statement jewelry for someone who enjoys being noticed.

Sheryl takes inspiration from the Goth, industrial, punk, 2 Tone, Mod and rave scenes, the 2SLGBTQ+ community, disco, little kids who love rainbows, stylish old broads who don’t give a damn anymore, and the Gen Z kids who mix everything up with panache and aplomb.

Every piece is handmade and completely unique. Made from (non-latex) rubber, polymer clay, felt, and whatever else she can find, Sheryl makes one-of-a-kind pieces that are the epitome of wearable art.

Hallowmas Featured Vendor – SweetlySinisterArt

I’m Sarah R., the 34-year-old owner of and sole artist at SweetlySinisterArt. I am a Gothic, fantasy loving, Halloween obsessed spiritual Satanist and my creations reflect such.

I picked up a pencil to draw at age 10 and have been practicing ever since. I got my start in the art industry 7 years ago when I took a job as a film & television prop maker. In the 4 years at that job, I created everything from wearable medieval amour out of sheet metal to Si-Fi weapons using everyday plumbing parts. Now, running my own studio where every day is Halloween for a little over 3 years, I proudly sell high quality handmade home decor, classic & 3D mixed media paintings as well as photo prints for those who enjoy both the sweet and sinister aspects of life.

Hallowmas Featured Vendor – Preterthings

My name is Vince, or Preterthings, I’m an animation student who likes painting animal skulls and dressing up like a clown. The name Preterthings comes from the word “preternatural”- meaning “beyond what is normal or natural”.

Most of my work revolves around the fascination for creepy dead things, as well as oddities, decomposition, cryptids, demons, reincarnation and things of that nature. My obsession for skulls in particular grew this summer when I had the opportunity to paint the majority of bones in my hoard.

Aside from skull painting I also enjoy stippling demons; the repetitiveness of drawing dots is like meditating and I think it did a lot for me. I still do it sitting in classes and stuff because I feel like it makes me listen better.

Preterthings will be taking part in our Hallowmas Market on Saturday, October 28th at Ground Control, 1279 Queen Street West. Visit Vince on the web (not phone compatible), or on  Instagram.
